Wow Life Really Does Start At 40!!!!

Last Friday my hubby surprised me with a gift. He went out and came back with a brand new bike for me.
I had done nothing but talk about getting a bike these past few weeks, as my sister and her family go bike riding at the weekends. I can join them now, and we've been having so much fun.

I love my new bike, infact I don't want to go out without it now. Getting to work and back is so much easier.
The roads are scary but I'm getting more confident.

Having a bike has helped me feel young again, and I feel like I have a new lease of life.
I'm really looking forward to this summer, lots of days out with full of adventure as I go cycling with the family.

Why do I find it so hard to de-clutter?

I really do have to sort my things out and de-clutter my house. The thing I need to get rid of most is my books. The thing is I can't do it....

I have so many and although I have read most of them and may not read them again, although I do hope one day I will. I just can't seem to bag them up and give them away. I am like this with everything, clothes, the kids toys, everything!!!

Why I'm this I don't know? Hubby on the other hand wishes I would sort my stuff out.

Is anyone else like this?

These are some Sackboy/girls I made for family for xmas. I really enjoyed making them. I especially enjoyed doing the girls, although making their hair was really testing my patience at times. But once I got into the swing of it I was fine.

Thankfully my family love them. :)

As I've said before I love knitting. If I'm feeling peed off and anxious I go and knit, it always helps to relax me and makes me happy (when I'm not dropping stitches!)

Turning 40...

In a couple of months, I'll have reach the grand middle age of 40. Why don't I feel excited about this though? I find it hard to believe, I'm actually going to be 40!!

They say life starts at 40, how does it?

Since my eldest son moved out a year ago, and who now lives with his girlfriend, I feel so old. It's like I'm now where my parents were, the old fogey. Yet, I know deep down that's not true. I don't see other people in their 40' 50's or 60's as old. Yet I see myself as old lol. Weird hey?

I do feel a responsibility since my boys have all grown up to act in a respsonsible adult way. When they were small, I felt like a kid myself and loved to join in their games. I was always playing their board games with them, hide and seek etc. I do miss those days. They were fun.
I know I have all that to look forward to in the future with my future Granchildren.

I'm wondering, do all mums feel like this as their children grow into young adults?

Looking forward to hearing any comments, about how you worked through this.

Meditation.

Meditation, is one of the best things you can do for relaxation and peace of mind. I used to think it was just sitting as still as you can. But there are so many different ways to meditate.

Gardening is meditation
Painting & sketching is meditation
Knitting, sewing, cross stitch, crochet, is meditation
House work is meditation.

Anything that causes you to become focused, relaxed and to be away somewhere in your 'zone', is meditation.

For me, knitting is my number one way to meditate. Wow it makes me feel great!

I really do love knitting, especially since I've learnt to read patterns. I'm practically knitting everyday now. I kind of feel lost without it. I know that knitting has really helped me to get through my depression since I took it up again just a couple of months ago. In fact since I started knitting I feel like it has helped me to progress faster.

I'm knitting things for xmas now and I'm having so much fun. I think I may just end up turning this into a knitting blog. lol.

Depression

I've decided to do this post as I want to reach out to people who are suffering with depression.
I myself have gone through depression, at this moment I am coming out of it, it's been a long dark lonely phase of my life.

I believe it started in 2007, one thing seemed to happen one after another. In the end I just couldn't cope and my depression became full blown. I tried so hard to battle it on my own. When I first realised I was suffering with depression, my first reaction was panic, as I knew it meant something was wrong. I was supposed to be this strong loving wife to my husband and a strong and supportive loving mother to my children. On the outside I could hide it and pretend all was okay, where as on the inside I was a complete and utter nervous wreck who was crying out for help.

The biggest mistake I did to cope was to use alcohol. I used it to hide away from my problems. It was my way of shutting it out. Of course alcohol can make you feel good at the time, but it's not long before you realise you're not getting the same affect from it and in the end it's just making you feel worse. Not surprising when you learn alcohol is a depressant.

So after having a really rough time I went and sought help from my doctor. He prescribed me anti depressants, but it took me another 2 months before I started taking them, as I was in denial and was trying to convince myself I could do this on my own. In the end I had to face facts, I needed help.

I also stopped using alcohol as a means to escape and I had to face my depression. It took a long time, and I had to take it one day at a time.

I just want to let those know who are suffering with depression, you are not alone. I know you may feel incredibily lonely, even though you have loved ones around you, the feeling of loneliness engulfs you.

Repeat positive affirmations. I know you won't 'feel' the words and will feel numb inside, but each day start off by repeating quotes of affirminations. I chose quotes by Louise Hay. I didn't feel it, but I knew I had to try and put some good words and thoughts into my brain. I had to try and train my brain to think good things.

Be gentle with yourself, this can be so hard to do when you're depressed. You are a good person, a loving person and you deserve to be happy and to be loved and to love also.

Start a hobby such as sketching, this really helped me and even though I'm not great at drawing I still gave it a go because it gave me so much healing inside. When I was sketching my mind was calm. A site I used to help me with learning to draw is Drawspace.com

Get outside and either spend time in your garden, gardening or go and walk in a park, sit outside on a park bench and just get out of the house even if it's for just a short while.

Stop punishing yourself, you are loved and you're beautiful and so important in this world. There is no shame and no reason to feel guilty, embarrassed or disgusted with yourself. Depression is an illness that requires medical attention. It is not your fault. It requires help just like any other medical illness.

Talk to someone, tell them how you feel, unload all that you feel inside. Talk to those who have suffered with depression, it will help you to stop feeling so lonely.

Turn the TV off, sometimes negative things on tv can trigger your depression and so try to stay away from anything negative on tv. I myself stopped watching Jeremy Kyle, and any other problem realted tv, as they just made me feel worse.

For anyone who knows someone who is suffering with depression, please know that this is a serious illness, depressed people are not attention seekers or hypercondriacs.. They are suffering with a serious mental illness and need your help.
Your love and support is so important. Please be patient, be prepared to listen without judgement. Make sure you are postive around this person, and please realise depressed people are very vulnerable and so very sensitive. You may not understand what a negative word or actions have on depressed people.
Your hug is one of the most important things you can give, as well as your love and patience.

Aunt Maggie Slippers & knitting.

I recently took up knitting again after a long break. I had never been able to read patterns before, until I found this lovely forum Phoenix Knitting Forums
The community there is very welcoming and they are ready to help anyone in need. I've never loved knitting so much. Now I am learning to read patterns, I just finished my first project from following a pattern. I chose Aunt Maggie Slippers and I did them following this tutorial Aunt Maggie Slippers I actually found this pattern on Raverly.com which is a brilliant website.

My first attempt was diabolical as my slipper ended up 4 inches longer than it should have been. However I am not one to give up, so I made another attempt straight after, and it took me just 3 hours to do the fiirst one, and then today just an hour and 15 minutes for the second one.

Here they are they, and now I can't wait to try a new pattern!

Running!

After being unwell for a while and now feeling tip top. I have taking up jogging. My sister mentioned it the other week, and we began walking/jogging to work. My sis isn't able to carry on with it at the moment, she may do at a later date hopefully. But I have carried on.

I've always admired people who run, seeing them jog past in the street I always wished I had the guts to do it myself. But my chatter box would constantly appear and convince me that I couldn't do that! And that I'd look nothing like these really cool runners, but that I would look like an idiot.

Well, I have pulled all my strength together and I refuse to give into my low self-esteem which has always stopped me from doing things. Good bye low self-esteem!!! Hello the new stronger me. :)

So, now I jog regulalry. I'm a beginner and it's going to take sometime for me to be able to build my strength up. The main thing is I am enjoying myself and I am feeling the benefits.
I can't wait to jog tomorrow!!! I look forward to every run now.

Joss Bay.

This weekend has been a fantastic one. I went to Camber Sands on Saturday with my Son and his partner, and Joss Bay today with my sister and her family. It was fantastic.

It was our first visit to Joss Bay since we were children, and it was beautiful
I love Camber Sands for the waves, they have more energy in them and are more exciting, but Joss Bay was gorgeous. It had a couple of Rock pools, and was a sandy beach with a gorgeous ocean.
Perfect for Children to make San castles and to explore the rock pools, also perfect for adults who want to sunbath and swim. I am looking forward to going again one day.

Well, here I am again after a while away. Been on Facebook playing some games and boy do they get addicting. Well, I'm not wasting my spring and summer on facebook games. ;)
Facebook games are a winter thing when you can't go out.

I have two new hobbies which I really love. Not done much in the way of painting lately. Got to sort my room out to make more space. I have to be really brutal and get rid of a majority of my books. I love books and this is going to be so hard, some of the books I love but have been sitting on my shelves for a few years and not sure when I will read them again. So will be giving most to the Demelza Childrens Hospice Charity.

Okay, so my two new hobbies are cooking and gardening which also includes indoor plants.
Hubby and I went and bought 10 new house plants, they are gorgeous. I'll list them later and put pics on here. My favourite so far is our Oriental Lily, she smells gorgeous and is so pretty!!!

I love cooking now and so will be trying some new things soon. One thing I have to master is my Mother in-laws gravy recipe, it's the best gravy ever!

That's enough for now as I'm cooking dinner and got to go and check up on it.

Out with the old and in with the new.

Well, we've gotten out of the sideshow statue hobby. We sold them all and now have to start a new hobby. This hobby is painting, for me it's acryllic, oil and water paints. While, hubby is into air brushing. I will delve into this myself eventually.

Atm, I'm back in my reading phase. I'm into self help and spiritual books. I'm taking a break from Facebook games to devote more time to reading. There's nothing like sitting down with a good book and getting lost within the pages.

Another thing I'm into lately is Gardening. I'm really enjoying doing my garden up. :)

I said you were in for a treat and here he is!! :) For you who are in this hobby that is who truly appreciate these models. This baby is 32 inches tall, and weighs about 90lbs. He is our largest model and my favourite. :)

Here's some more models we've collected. I absolutely adore the HULK. He is huge!!!!! :)
Hubby loves the Captain America. Me on the other hand think he's okay, but he's not my favourite, however he is still a great piece to have. If you are i nto this collection then you're in for a treat with my next post which will be posted above this one. :)

Sideshow Model Crazy.

Hi,

After giving up the plane hobby for a while we have found ourselves with a new one. I didn't even know the things we have just began to collect even existed. That was until hubby asked me if we could buy a Hell Boy Model which in the circle of collectors is known as a Sideshow Premium Format Statue. So being as I love my hubby to bits and find it hard to say no to him, simply because he's gorgeous and is my life, I said yes. :)

So it started of with one statue, our Hell boy and soon we got another and another. Now we have a bit of a collection going on. Seeing as we really are movie addicts as you saw in a previous post. This hobby seems to fit us well and is also an investment for our children. Most of the statues are not cheap.

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you about it, and show you some pics. These are some of our Models. Not all are Sideshow, some of the models we collect are made by DC Direct and Bowen.
When we go to London one of our first stop offs is Forbidden Planet. Fabulous store. :)

Coraline - Blu-ray

Yesterday we got our eagarly awaited parcel from the usa, Coraline on Blu-ray. We opted for the 3D version, and was blown away by the movie. The 3D version was amazing. The colour is reduced while watching it in this format, but we can opt for the 2D version when watching it next. I love Blu-ray, it gives so much more to a movie, quality of picture, colour and love that when you get a good Blu-ray movie, images are popping out from the screen.

I don't usually go for modern Children's animated movies. I much prefer the old classics I grew up with, such as Wizard of Oz etc.. But Coraline blew me away, I'll be keeping this one.

For all ages, however small children may find it a bit frightening. Some Ghosties in which one was looking particularly scary. Not in a horrible way, but in a real sad way.

So, I can't talk about Model Airplanes anymore :(
So I'm gonna talk about our new hobby, which is about Movies.
Above is a picture of Joe our son standing next to our 106 inch Projector screen. This for us is the only way to watch movies, as we have our own Cinema at home, and on the screen is lovely Johnny Depp! :)

Sadly, my hubby has come to the decision to sell our planes. He no longer wants to be apart of the flying club we attend and basically doesn't want to this right now. So, he has decided to sell his much beloved plane. One of the mistakes we made was to sell all our Glow Fuel planes, to upgrade to 1/4 scale Petrol planes. Our house isn't big enough to store them, we won't store them in the shed due to thieves and they are so expensive when a part needs replacing. If you was to damaged the engine in a crash etc, then you have a £300 engine that needs replacing. Even a wing, costs a bomb.

I am not 100% agreeable to this, which he knows. But I do understand why he is doing it. I am really sad to see the plane go. But we don't get to go flying much anymore and hubby doesn't feel in the mood anymore to enjoy the club, mainly because the club we use, the pitch although has beautiful surroundings, the actual landing area is poor. Anyone in this hobby would understand what I mean.

I am really going to miss the guys there, the field and the friendships we made. I'm gonna miss this club a lot. The people there are amazing. I miss them loads already!!!

It is an expensive hobby, and at times it can be such a huge headache. But it is such a rewarding one too.

I will not let hubby drop this hobby for good. He can have his time out and then we'll start again, in time, we need to find another club with a good runway. We still have a few planes to start off with again. It was me who encouraged him to take up this hobby, me who implanted it into his mind.

But all I can say for now is ........ WE WILL BE BACK!!!!! ;)

Joe's First Flight.

While we were at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, we were thrilled to find out they had tutor flights on offer. Our 12 year old son Joe, wants a career in the RAF as a pilot, and is also going to join the Air Cadets this summer. We want to do all we can to encourage him with his ambition and so we made sure he would get his chance to be in the sky. He often practices with Flight Sims, if you think that's easy, think again. It's not and basically it's a simulation of a real aircraft.

The best thing of all was it was in one of Joe's (and one of all of our favourite planes) favourite planes, the Tiger Moth.
We booked him a flight and at 12:45pm, he went for a 15 minute flight where he was able to take the controls in that time and fly it himself.

He was so nervous, but also so excited. Here he was living out his dream. It was his first time in an Airplane and much more special that it was in a Tiger Moth. His dad and I were on the ground and so very excited and thrilled for him. The excitment is still with me today and I feel like I'm on cloud nine, because it was possible for him to live out his dream yesterday. Both me and his dad are so very proud of him.

Here is a short video of his flight, we couldn't film the whole thing as my camera wasn't able to zoom in as he appeared as a tiny dot, being so far out and up at 2000 feet in the sky. But we have the Dvd on it's way to us of the flight from being filmed within the cockpit. Can't wait to see it, and I will upload it here.

I would like to thank the Imperial War Museum Duxford, the Staff of Classic Wings who were very helpful and very nice, and the Pilot who took Joe for his first flight. You all helped to make his dream possible.

Yesterday, hubby woke up and decided to take us on a surprise trip. On the way he announced we were going to Duxford War Museum. We were thrilled as we have wanted to visit this place for a while now. We had a fantastic day and we can't wait to go back!

Carden Yak 54 Maiden

Hi all,

Well, we recently maidened our new plane. Thankfully it was a success! :)
Before we maiden a plane it is a bit stressful, as you never know just how well the plane will fly. We have had a one which didn't make it after the maiden, mainly because the tail was warped a bit. Anyway enough of that. I'm talking about our new plane. :)

She was a success and here's the video of her maiden. :)
Oh yes and hubby got carried away with the text as he put this movie together. :)

Carden Aircraft Yak 54

Recently we sold four of our model airplanes on Ebay. Basically we sold two and gave one away free with each model. We did this, as we have moved over to Petrol planes, and are giving up the glow fuel planes. We've loved the experience with glow fuel but it's time to move onto new things, bigger and better yay!

Anyway, I thought I'd show you some pics of our new plane. It's huge and takes up most of our lounge as you can see.
She hasn't flown yet, but she will do very soon and the video will end up on youtube very soon.

Guss's Tiger Moth

Guss, a member of the club, loves to build his planes from scratch. Which takes a lot of patience, dedication, motivation and love. Love, because he loves the hobby and his planes.

There are a few members there who build their planes from scratch, it takes months and may be a year or two. I would love Al to start a plane from scratch, but at the moment he doesn't have the patience for that. Hmmm.......

Anyway, I thought I'd show you the latest plane Guss has been building from scratch. It's a Tiger Moth and she's a quarter scale plane. It's not finished yet and as you can see she's BEAUTIFUL!

A Bit of Nature...

At the field where we fly, we are so lucky to see some of the nature out there. One of the things I love doing (as you've most probably guessed) is taking photo's and I take lots of them. I never go to the field without my camera, if I had the chance I'd take it everywhere with me.

The first pic is of a beautiful Butterfly who seemed to enjoy posing for me.

Here, the farmer is harvesting his field and in the back ground is a Lavender field. Oh how I wish I could have walked in that Lavender! Isn't it beautiful?
I was so very lucky to get so close to this rabbit. In Spring there were loads of Rabbits. All hopping from burrow to burrow and out to eat the grass. But then some nasty Poachers came along and shot them all. So right now, there are no rabbits left on this field. :(

Back in Spring I was so very lucky to get a few feet from a Badger. I had to move so slow. It had come out for a drink. As I was approaching I got to take these pictures of it. I found this experience amazing.

Here's a short video I took of the Badger as I was approaching it. I stood back to get this shot of it, but I did manage to get closer. The video is not good quality as I took it with my phone. How I wish I had my video camera back then!

Our Edge on Film!

Yesterday, as usual I took my camera along and filmed Al flying the Edge. I often do this when we get a new plane. I love filming him flying them. It's great to look back. I usually put them on youtube, where thousands of others do the same in this hobby.

Anyway, here's our latest video of our latest plane. Please excuse the fact that I couldn't always keep the Airplane in the view finder. I have to zoom in and it's hard to keep up with the plane when you do. Also ignore my chatting lol.

Today at the Club.

It's the third day in a row Al and I got to go flying, and unlike yesterday, the weather today was beautiful! It was like Spring, nice and warmish and very sunny. Yesterday was so cold! I was supposed to stay at home today, but I decided at the last minute to go along.

So today I thought I'd take some pictures of the field we fly at. It's on a farmers field in Horton Kirby. We love it there, as do many other members. I have also been very lucky to be just a few feet from a Badger at the field.

Today With Our Edge 540

This morning we were once again at our Club. We love it there and so have to pick our days, like anyone else who is in this hobby. So on those calm dry days we are usually there. Today it was just Al and myself there, no one else turned up while we were there, and I guess it was because it was so bloody cold!

This morning was all about doing our new plane's Maiden. It's an Edge 540 a 28%, 76" wing span. She flew beautifully, and it was so exciting as this is our first Petrol plane. We love the glow fuel too, but the petrol engine sounds much louder and has that roar like a Motor bike engine does. I love it!

I took some film of it which will also be uploaded to youtube. Anyway, in the picture below is myself with our new plane. Al told me to jump in the picture so we could show you her size.

Today at the Flying Club.

We were at our flying club today, we arrived at 10am, but soon after arriving we had to head home as Al, forgot an important part of the plane - The Wing Spar. Anyway so we headed home and made our way back to our club.

When we got there, we found two club members there, Malcome and Guss. We had a really good day. It's good meeting up with the guys and Guss is such a lovely guy. He's very friendly and supportive. Everyone loves Guss. Here's a few piccys.

Some of Our RC Model Airplanes.

These are the planes we started out with on the right was our first, The Super Cub, on the left the T-28 Trojan. They are electric planes and loads of fun and great learners for beginners. Especially the Super Cub as your first plane. We gave our Super Cub away to one of the club members a couple of months ago, as he liked it so much and we were done with using it.

Here's me with the Super Cub and one of Al's favourite planes the Sundowner.

Here's Al with a plane we all love, the F6F Hellcat. I personally love this one.

Here's Joe with his favourite plane, the Pulse 60XT. We all love this plane, it is so much fun and so fast!

Lastly, this is our least favourite of all of our planes. It's called a U-Can-D0 and you can learn to do some tricks etc with this one, but sadly we find this one boring. For us, it doesn't have the edge and excitment the other planes offer. This one will most probably be sold at the bring and buy sale next summer.

Our Hobby (R/C Model Airplanes)

My hubby, youngest son and myself have a hobby that we all enjoy. Radio Controlled Model Airplanes. I personally have only had a little go at flying the electric planes. I enjoyed it but I prefer to watch hubby Alex, and Joe my son fly.
We all love the glow engine planes and the petrol planes. They're our favourite.

Often when I talk to friends and family about this they tend to think we're mad and that it's a toy. But the thing is, they just don't understand this sport and I guess I can't blame them as they have never tried it, or been there on the field at the club, and so they don't understand and haven't experienced how wonderful it is. These planes are not toys, and they can be very dangerous. This is a serious sport which is so enjoyable, it's a hobby that can be so enjoyed and loved. It is an expensive hobby but so worth it if you love what this hobby has to offer. One thing I also love about it, is it's a family day out, and a hobby that the family enjoy together.

This hobby has also created a passion for Joe, as he loves airplanes now and has done his own research on them, and also on WWI and WWII. I am amazed at how much he has researched these subjects. Next year when he turns 13 he'll be joining The Air Cadets. So if this hobby fills him with motivation and helps to create his dream of becoming an RAF Pilot, then that is fantastic. We will support him all the way.

Just watching Al or Joe fly the planes is amazing, the roar of the engine, the smell of the fuel, and watching the planes up high in the sky soaring is amazing.

In the photo above Al is getting ready the Bi-plane Fokker D.VII. It's a German plane that was used in WWI. Joe's favourite plane so far.

Not only do I go to watch the planes in the air, but I also go for the country side. As our club is on a farmers field. Also most of the 0ther members of the club are lovely and it is good to catch up with them, and watch them fly their planes.

Amazingly, some of the guys are of a great age of 77 years old and yet are able to fly their planes as though they were young men. One of the reasons for this I believe is, this hobby has kept these men young at heart and to meet them and mingle with them, you wouldn't believe some of them were pensioners. They are full of vibrant energy and are full of life. Some of them don't even look their age, I am shocked when I hear them say their age, as they look so much younger.

Twilight - The Movie.

I am a huge Twilight fan, I absolutely love this book series and I cannot wait till Twilight is released on the Cinema.

This series has been brilliant. I still have one book to read (Breaking Dawn) and then I am done. I can't imagine passing those books on as I just love them so much, and I know I will love them just as much or even more when I re-read them.

I haven't been so hooked on a book series since Harry Potter!

Edward is a brilliant character and so is Jacob. I like Bella although at times she can seem annoying. But still I love her too.

For me, Bella in the movie is exactly how I imagined her in the books. As for Edward though, my Edward in my mind is so much more handsome. But, when I go and see the movie, I will just enjoy it, well I hope I do anyway! :)

Life

Well, today has been a normal Monday so far. I've been to work and am now home and will catch up soon on my house work. I have to return to work later. I'm a School Cleaner and really enjoy my job.

Books
I just finished 'Eclipse' by Stephenie Meyer, yesterday. I really enjoyed this book and I have reviewed it on my Book Blog
Now I am reading 'Moondance of Stonewylde' by Kit Berry, and I can't wait to get started!

My Kids
I'm so proud of my kids. My eldest attends Greenwich University and is studying Games Development. He's already creating his own games, and I watch in awe as I see them. I'm so very proud of what he has and is achieving.

My middle son has a full time job, he's moved out and lives with his girlfriend. He's currently looking into a career which he is interested in, that has great job opportunities. He's grown up so much these last few months. When he comes to visit me I am beaming with pride.

My youngest son, attends secondary school and is doing so well. He's decided already that he wants to be an RAF Pilot. He has such passion for Airplanes and WWI. He's 12 years old and I'm sure if he keeps on doing well in school as he is currently doing, his dream has every chance of becoming reality.
